India: Bombay Slum Dwellers Priced Out As Shacks Sell For £50k
1:31am UK, Tuesday December 13, 2011 Alex Rossi, India correspondent India's poor are being priced out of slum areas in Mumbai with some shacks being sold for more than £50000 ($78091.10). The Dharavi slum, which is home to more than one million people, used to be on the edge of India's richest city. But as Mumbai expanded it now enjoys a prime centrally-located position. Residents of Dharavi can get anywhere in the traffic choked-city relatively quickly. We were shown around one dwelling by Raju. His house is tiny but he shares it with his wife, children and parents. There is a vibrant community life in Dharavi slum Its size though has not stopped him getting an offer of £53000 for the property even though he does not own the land underneath the building. "There is great interest here," he explains. "There is a commercial complex next door and that complex wants to expand so my house is now very valuable." Mumbai's shanties began life as clusters of illegal dwellings on public property, including parks, roads and pavements. Politicians realising the number of votes on hand made them a permanent feature of the landscape by providing electricity and water. The Dharavi slum is also home to many flourishing businesses and has a unique economy worth hundreds of millions of pounds. As the rag shops, metal factories and food kitchens have become richer so have their owners. Sheik Yusuf, a builder, can afford to leave but says moving out is not an option in a city where the ...

Confessions of a Slum Lord, Ontario Housing Tribunal Part 1
Elizabeth Beckett, a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, has spent much of her professional life in the teaching profession. Prior to taking up her position at the Landlord and Tenant Board she was a part-time professor of Law at Sheridan College and for the past ten years has taught Business Law for Canadian General Accountants. Ms. Beckett brings with her experience gained as an adjudicator to the Boards of Inquiry for the Human Rights Commission. After watching this video, can you believe that Elizabethh Beckett Member of the Ontario Housing Tribunal, a person in a postition to judge and dispense what is so called justice here in Ontario, was a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, a part-time professor of Law at Sheridan College, spent much of her professional life in the teaching profession, and was an adjudicator to the Boards of Inquiry for the Human Rights Commission. Yet this supposedly well educated individual didn't even know the difference between Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide. Yes back then our educational system was really poor and the results show in individuals such as Elizabeth Beckett. It seems apparent she was one of the many pushed through the school systems without merit. Would you trust this individual to be just and fair? I can only imagine all the miscarriages of justice and other atrocities comitted under the flawed and biased decisions of Elizabeth Beckett. But soon I'll find out. There are a few other issues and observations I'll be ...

"Flying toilets" in Kenya slum to be replaced by new facility (KWENCH)
Constance Hunt, founder of KWENCH (Kenya Water, ENergy, Cleanliness and Health) talks about her new community center. It provides toilets and cooking facilities and runs on fermented human waste. This community center will immediately provide toilets for the thousands that live nearby. There are NO toilets in this slum, period. The current practice is a flying toilet where a person defecates in a plastic bag and literally chucks it out the window of the shack without regard to the mess it leaves in the community as a whole.

I heard this piano cover www.youtube.com and I looked at the chords and played them. I might have played it wrong because I suck when it comes to music theory or the person might have wrote their interpretation of the song. So I took from that and I did everything else by ear. J Dilla Slum Village

Real life Slum dog wins Millionaire and TOWIE's Nanny Pat busts a move.
Real life Slum dog wins Millionaire And Towie's Nanny Pat busts a move. Hi I'm Rachael Downie and it's Friday, reason enough to celebrate today's Hot off the net UK. A poor government clerk from a desolate region of eastern India has become the first person to win 50m rupees - approximately £630000 - on the Indian version of game show Who wants to be a Millionaire. Sushil Kumar's staggering win on the popular Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? has transformed him into a role model for the millions of aspiring youth from similarly poor backgrounds in the country. His win echoes the plot of the 2008 Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, whose impoverished protagonist won the grand prize on the show. Kumar, the 26-year-old son of a farm labourer, earned around £75 a month, and told viewers his family was so poor they couldn't afford a television set. He would watch the show at a neighbour's home, and when they realised he had a talent for general knowledge, they persuaded him to apply for the programme. The trip to the Mumbai studio where the show is taped was his first ride in a plane and his first visit to a big city, he is the first ever jackpot winner of the show. It's Friday and the weekend is upon us and luckily for us the TOWIE lot have shown us how to make the most of it - Essex style! The likes of Lauren Goodger, Mark Wright, Lydia Bright, Debbie, James Argent and Gemma Collins show us their best partying and pulling skills in this funny video. In the ...
